Document Assembly
Create professional documents from templates using Muin's AI-powered interview workflow, section-by-section generation, and collaborative review.
Document Assembly turns document creation from a blank-page struggle into a guided, AI-assisted process. Choose a document type, answer interview questions, and Muin generates polished sections that you review and refine before exporting the final result.
How Document Assembly Works
Every assembly project follows a structured pipeline:
Choose Type → Interview → Generate Sections → Review & Feedback → Approve → Export
| Phase | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Choose Type | Pick from available document types (e.g., policy, proposal, report) |
| Interview | Answer guided questions so the AI understands your needs |
| Generate | AI drafts each section based on your answers and the template |
| Review | Read generated content, request changes, provide feedback |
| Approve | Mark each section as approved when it meets your standards |
| Export | Download the finished document in your preferred format |
Getting Started
Creating a New Project
- Navigate to Document Assembly in the main navigation
- Click New Project
- Select a document type from the available templates
- Enter a project name and any initial notes
- The interview phase begins automatically
Choosing the Right Document Type
Muin provides multiple document types, each with pre-defined sections and interview questions tailored to that format. Browse the type catalog to see:
- Display name and description for each type
- Section list showing what the final document will contain
- Required vs. optional sections so you know the minimum scope
- Dependencies between sections (some sections need others completed first)
The Interview Phase
The interview is a structured Q&A that collects the information the AI needs to generate high-quality content.
How Interviews Work
- Muin presents questions one at a time or in logical groups
- Answer each question with the relevant details
- Progress is tracked so you can pause and resume at any time
- Once all required questions are answered, the interview is complete
Interview Tips
- Be specific: “Reduce operational costs by 15% through automation” is better than “save money”
- Provide context: Mention your industry, audience, or regulatory requirements
- Use examples: If the question asks about goals, list concrete outcomes
- Review progress: Check the progress indicator to see how far along you are
Generating Sections
Once the interview is complete, you can generate sections individually or in batch.
Single Section Generation
- Open a section from the project detail view
- Click Generate to create AI-drafted content
- The section status updates as generation completes
Batch Generation
For efficiency, generate multiple sections at once:
- Select the sections you want to generate
- Click Generate Selected or Generate All
- Muin processes each section using your interview answers and template structure
- Monitor status as each section completes
Section Dependencies
Some sections depend on others. For example, an executive summary might need the body sections generated first. Muin respects these dependencies and prompts you to generate prerequisite sections before dependent ones.
Reviewing and Refining Content
Providing Feedback
After a section is generated, review the content and provide feedback:
- Read through the generated text carefully
- If changes are needed, click Give Feedback
- Describe what should change: tone, length, missing details, corrections
- Muin regenerates the section incorporating your feedback
- Repeat until the content meets your requirements
Approving Sections
When a section is ready:
- Click Approve on the section
- Approved sections are locked from further generation (but can be unlocked if needed)
- Once all required sections are approved, the project is ready for export
Exporting Your Document
Export Options
When all sections are approved:
- Click Export on the project
- Choose your preferred format (PDF, DOCX, or other supported formats)
- The export is generated and available for download
Export History
Every export is saved in the project’s export history so you can:
- Download previous versions of the document
- Track when exports were created and by whom
- Compare different versions if the document was revised
Additional Workflows
Collaborative Review
Multiple team members can work on the same project:
- One person completes the interview while another reviews generated sections
- Feedback from different reviewers is consolidated
- Section approval can be restricted to specific roles
Iterative Refinement
Document Assembly supports multiple rounds of feedback on each section. If the first generation is not quite right, provide targeted feedback and regenerate. The AI improves with each iteration based on your corrections.
Resuming Work
Projects save automatically. Return to any in-progress project from the Document Assembly list to pick up where you left off. Interview answers, generated sections, and feedback are all preserved.
Tips
- Complete the interview thoroughly before generating sections. Better answers produce better first drafts.
- Generate sections in order when dependencies exist. The AI uses earlier sections as context for later ones.
- Use specific feedback instead of vague requests. “Add a paragraph about data privacy compliance” is more effective than “make it longer.”
- Batch generate when possible to save time, then review all sections together for consistency.
- Export early, export often. Use the export history to compare versions as you refine.
Common Issues
| Issue | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Section generation fails | Missing interview answers | Complete all required interview questions first |
| Generated content is too generic | Vague interview answers | Edit your interview responses to be more specific, then regenerate |
| Cannot generate a section | Dependency not met | Generate the prerequisite section(s) first |
| Export button is disabled | Not all required sections approved | Review and approve all required sections |
| Feedback not reflected | Feedback was too broad | Provide specific, actionable feedback and regenerate |
