AI in Reconciliation
How Smart Match, AI Chat, anomaly flags, compliance summaries and weekly digests help you reconcile, and what each one can and cannot do.
Muin uses AI in reconciliation to rank close matches, answer questions about your bank rows and point out unusual activity. AI never confirms a match on its own judgment: matches above your auto-confirm levels come from the rule-based matchers, and anything AI suggests waits for you.
Smart Match
When the rules find several close candidates, Smart Match asks AI to rank them and explain why. You see the result in the row drawer under AI Smart Match.
- Turn it on or off in Finance → Reconciliation → Settings with Enable Smart Match (LLM-augmented matching). Off means only the rules are used.
- Every run is listed on the Insights page under AI activity.
AI Chat
Open Finance → Reconciliation → AI Chat and ask in plain words, for example “Show me unmatched Zelle from this week” or “Recent reconciliation activity”. When you ask it to match or unmatch a row, it asks you to confirm before anything changes.
Anomaly flags
Muin scans new bank rows every hour and flags anything unusual on the row:
Amount outlier, New counterparty, Velocity spike, Possible duplicate, Sanctions watch and Backflow.
A flag is a reason to look, not a verdict. Insights → Anomalies lists the last 30 days, with Open row → to jump to each one.
Compliance summary
In the row drawer, the Compliance summary card can draft a summary for a large or suspicious deposit. Press Generate compliance summary. If the row crosses the IRS Form 8300 cash reporting threshold, the card says so. Suggested next steps include Email donor to confirm intent. The draft is a starting point for your own review, not legal advice.
Weekly digests
Insights → Weekly digests shows a short summary for each week: how many matches were confirmed and how many anomalies were flagged.
Common problems
- “No AI activity yet.” Smart Match has not run, or it is turned off in Settings.
- “No anomalies in the last 30 days.” Nothing unusual was flagged. This is the normal state.
- “Insights are temporarily unavailable.” Reload the page. Your reconciliation data is not affected.
