Kiosk Authoring — Impact

Show donors exactly what their gift accomplishes. Up to five impact statements per campaign, each with an icon, amount, and one-line story.

The Impact tab is where you tell donors what their gift actually does. A list of up to five impact statements appears mid-screen on the kiosk, each with an icon, an amount, and a single line of copy.

This is the section that turns “donate” into a concrete choice. A donor scanning the screen sees “your $25 funds a week of after-school tutoring” and picks the matching amount tile because they want that outcome.

How an Impact Statement Looks

Each statement has three parts:

Part Example
Icon A curated glyph (heart, book, food, water, building, etc.)
Amount $25 — what the donor would give
Copy “funds a week of after-school tutoring” — what their gift does

The kiosk renders them as a horizontal row on tablets and a vertical stack on phones. Animation is subtle — each tile fades in with a small upward slide as the screen settles.

Adding a Statement

  1. Click Add impact statement. A new empty row appears at the bottom of the list.
  2. Click the icon placeholder. The icon picker modal opens with 24 curated impact icons.
  3. Pick the icon that best matches the outcome.
  4. Enter the amount (positive whole number — e.g. 25, 100, 500).
  5. Write the copy. Keep it under 80 characters — the counter lights amber if you go over.
  6. Use the up/down arrows or drag the grip handle to reorder.

The 24 Curated Icons

The picker shows 24 icons covering the most common nonprofit impact categories. The categories are intentionally broad so any campaign can find a match:

  • People & care: heart, hand-holding, family, child
  • Education: book, graduation-cap, pencil, school
  • Food & water: meal, bowl, water-drop, fork-knife
  • Shelter & medical: home, building, stethoscope, kit
  • Faith & community: mosque, church, dove, ribbon
  • Other: globe, leaf, seed, star

If none of the 24 fits, pick the closest match. Custom icons are NOT supported at v1 — the curated set keeps every kiosk visually consistent with the rest of the platform.

Writing the Copy (80 chars)

Good impact copy is concrete, active, and short:

  • Good: “funds a week of after-school tutoring” — concrete outcome
  • Good: “provides emergency shelter for one family” — concrete outcome
  • Avoid: “supports our programs” — too generic to motivate a specific amount
  • Avoid: “helps us continue the important work we do” — vague + filler

The copy should complete the sentence: “Your $X _____.”

If your gift unit is annual or recurring, say so: “funds a child’s school year” reads as a one-time amount because that’s how the kiosk frames it. If you mean “$25/month for a year,” write the monthly amount and leave the annualization to the giving page.

Ordering

The kiosk renders impact statements in the order you set them. Best practice is ascending by amount — smallest gift first, largest last. This walks the donor’s eye from “I can do that” to “I could do more if I stretched.”

Drag the grip handle to reorder. Keyboard accessibility: tab to the row, then use the up/down arrow buttons next to the handle.

Tips

  1. Three statements is the sweet spot. Five feels crowded on a phone; one feels like there’s only one choice.
  2. Match impact amounts to your preset tiles. If your tiles are $10/$25/$50, your impact statements should land on those amounts (or close — $50/$100/$250 is fine if you only show three tiles).
  3. Lead with the smallest gift. Donors who feel “I can do at least that” tend to give more than the smallest option.
  4. One verb per statement. Resist the urge to chain (“supports and provides and funds…”).
  5. Use the icons consistently across campaigns. If you use the book icon for tutoring once, use it for tutoring every time.

Common Issues

Issue Cause Solution
Impact statement doesn’t show on the kiosk The campaign has zero impact statements OR the template doesn’t render the impact band Add at least one statement OR pick a template that includes the impact band
Icon looks wrong Picked an icon that doesn’t match the copy Re-open the picker and pick a closer match
Copy gets cut off on phone Over the 80-char limit and the kiosk truncates Trim to under 80 chars
Wrong order Statements were added in a different order than intended Drag the grip handle or use up/down arrows to reorder
