Processing Your First Document
Upload and process your first document in Muin. Learn how document intelligence extracts data, routes for approval, and integrates with your workflows.
This guide walks you through uploading and processing your first document in Muin. You’ll see how AI extracts key information and routes documents for action.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- A Muin account with document upload access
- A document to upload (invoice, contract, receipt, etc.)
- Supported format: PDF, PNG, JPG, or DOCX
Step 1: Upload a Document
From the Documents Hub
- Navigate to Documents in the sidebar
- Click Upload or drag and drop your file
- Select a document type (or let Muin detect it)
- Click Upload
From Anywhere
Use the command palette:
- Press
Ctrl+K(orCmd+K) - Type “upload document”
- Select and upload your file
Via Email Forwarding
Forward documents directly:
- Go to Settings → Email Forwarding
- Copy your unique forwarding address
- Forward emails with attachments to that address
Step 2: Watch the Processing
Processing Stages
After upload, watch the document move through stages:

Step 3: Review Extracted Data
Opening the Document
Click the document to open the detail view:
- Left panel: Original document viewer
- Right panel: Extracted data fields
- Top bar: Actions and status

Depending on document type, you’ll see:

Each extracted field shows confidence:
- High (green) - Likely correct
- Medium (yellow) - Review recommended
- Low (red) - Manual entry may be needed
Step 4: Verify and Correct
Editing Extracted Data
Click any field to edit:
- Click the field value
- Enter the correct value
- Press Enter or click away to save
Using Quick Corrections
For common corrections:
- Click suggested corrections below low-confidence fields
- Use the “Copy from similar” option if available
Marking as Verified
Once you’ve reviewed:
- Click Mark as Verified
- Document moves to the next stage
Step 5: Route for Action
Automatic Routing
Based on document type and rules, Muin may automatically:
- Send invoices for approval
- File contracts in the right folder
- Create tasks for follow-up
- Notify relevant team members
Manual Routing
You can also route manually:
- Click Route in the action bar
- Choose destination:
- Send for approval
- Assign to team member
- File in specific location
- Add notes if needed
- Click Route
Step 6: Track the Document
Document Timeline
View the document’s history:
- When it was uploaded
- Who processed it
- Approvals and rejections
- Status changes
Finding Your Document
Locate documents easily:
- Search: Use the search bar
- Filters: Filter by status, type, date
- Chat: Ask Muin “show me the Acme invoice”
Understanding Document Types
Supported Types

Type Detection
Muin automatically detects document type based on:
- Document content
- Layout patterns
- Key phrases
You can override the detected type if needed.
Tips for Better Processing
Document Quality
For best results:
- Use clear, readable scans (300 DPI+)
- Ensure text is not cut off
- Avoid handwritten documents when possible
- Use PDF format for multi-page documents
File Naming
While not required, descriptive names help:

Batch Uploads
Upload multiple documents at once:
- Select multiple files
- Or drag a folder
- Each processes independently
Common Questions
How long does processing take?
Most documents process in 15-45 seconds. Complex documents with many pages may take up to 2 minutes.
What if extraction is wrong?
Edit any field directly. Your corrections help improve future accuracy.
Can I re-process a document?
Yes. Click Reprocess in the document actions to run extraction again.
What happens to the original file?
The original is preserved. You can always download the source file.
