Setting Up Your First Payment

Enable Smart Payments, connect Stripe, and accept your first payment in Muin. Accept cards, ACH, NFC, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and more.

This guide walks you through enabling Smart Payments in Muin and accepting your first payment. By the end, you’ll have a working payment setup ready to accept cards, ACH, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and more.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • A Muin account with admin permissions
  • Your business tax ID (EIN or equivalent)
  • A bank account for receiving payouts
  • About 5 minutes for setup (verification takes 1-2 business days)

Step 1: Enable Smart Payments

  1. Navigate to Settings —> Payments
  2. Click Enable Smart Payments
  3. Complete business verification:
    • Legal business name
    • Tax identification number (EIN)
    • Business address
    • Authorized representative information
  4. Accept the Payments Terms of Service
  5. Click Submit for Review

Verification typically completes within 1-2 business days. You’ll receive an email when approved.

Step 2: Connect Stripe

Stripe powers card and NFC payments in Muin.

  1. Go to Settings —> Payments —> Providers
  2. Click Connect Stripe
  3. If you have an existing Stripe account:
    • Sign in and authorize Muin
  4. If you need a new account:
    • Follow the Stripe onboarding flow
    • Muin pre-fills your business details
  5. Configure your payout schedule (daily, weekly, or monthly)
  6. Click Complete Setup

After connecting, verify the integration:

Settings → Payments → Providers → Stripe → Test Connection

Optional: Enable ACH via Stripe Financial Connections

If you want to accept bank transfers:

  1. Go to Settings —> Payments —> Providers
  2. Ensure Stripe is connected (Financial Connections is included)
  3. Enable ACH payments in your Stripe dashboard
  4. Choose verification method (instant or micro-deposit)
  5. Click Save Configuration

Step 3: Enable Wallet Payments (Apple Pay & Google Pay)

Muin supports Apple Pay and Google Pay on all card-collection surfaces — payment pages, donation forms, event registrations, and kiosk. Wallets appear automatically once your payment domain is registered.

After connecting Stripe:

  1. Go to SettingsPayments
  2. Wallet payments are enabled by default when Stripe is connected
  3. Verify domain registration: Settings → Payments → Providers → Stripe → Payment Methods

Wallets appear for customers automatically based on their device and browser:

  • Apple Pay — Safari on iPhone, iPad, or Mac with Apple Pay set up
  • Google Pay — Chrome or Android browsers with a Google Pay card saved

No extra configuration is needed for individual payment pages or forms.

Step 4: Create a Payment Page

Payment pages are the fastest way to start accepting money.

  1. Navigate to PaymentsPayment Pages
  2. Click Create Payment Page
  3. Configure the page:
    • Title - e.g., “Invoice Payment” or “Donate Now”
    • Amount - Fixed amount, or let the payer enter an amount
    • Payment methods - Cards, ACH, Apple Pay, Google Pay — all enabled by default
    • Branding - Your logo and colors are applied automatically
  4. Click Publish
  5. Copy the shareable link

Share the link via email, embed it on your website, or send it through Muin Chat.

Common Questions

How long until funds reach my bank?

Depends on your payout schedule. With daily payouts, card payments arrive in 2 business days. ACH payments settle in 3-5 business days.

What if a payment fails?

Failed payments appear in your dashboard with a reason code. Common causes: insufficient funds, expired card, or fraud block. Contact the payer to retry with a different method.

Is it PCI compliant?

Yes. Card data is handled entirely by Stripe (a PCI DSS Level 1 certified processor) and never touches Muin servers.

Can I issue refunds?

Yes. Open the transaction, click Refund, choose full or partial refund, and confirm.
