Record an in-kind donation on your phone
Record donated goods on Muin Go: pickups from partner locations, walk-in drop-offs, photo and barcode item entry, donor signatures and receipts.
Record donated goods where they arrive: at a partner’s store on a pickup run, or at your front desk when a donor drops items off.
When you’d use this
- You drive a pickup route and collect donated food or goods from partner locations.
- A donor walks in with a bag of clothes or a box of supplies.
- You have a pile of donations and want to log them without typing every item.
Open In-Kind
Go to Home → Nonprofit → In-Kind Donations. The screen shows Today’s Pickups, your Recent pickups from the last seven days, and buttons to receive a walk-in donor, scan a barcode, photograph a pile of donations, or view today’s route.
The first time you open it, a short tour explains the ways to add items. You can show it again from the same screen.
Record a pickup
- Tap a pickup under Today’s Pickups, or start a new one.
- Choose the Partner location and Pickup date, then tap Next. If the partner has an NFC sticker, tap your phone to it: the location fills in and the tag is verified.
- Under Enter items, add the items. Add items by:
- Photo AI: take one photo of the donation and Muin fills in item rows. Check each row; rows marked for review must be confirmed before you submit.
- Barcode: scan a packaged item’s barcode to add it in one tap.
- Manual: type the item and pick it from your organization’s catalog.
- Tap + Add row for more items.
- On Review & submit, add the Donor signature (or tap Skip signature) and a donor email if they want a receipt.
- Tap Submit pickup.
When you have two or more stops, tap Start Route to see them in order and open each in Maps.
Receive a walk-in donor
- Tap Receive a walk-in donor.
- Step 1: search for the donor by name or email, or add them.
- Step 2: add a row per item. Use the camera or barcode button on a row to fill that row, or type the name.
- Step 3: type the donor’s full name to confirm they donated these items.
- Tap Submit walk-in pickup. Muin creates the receipt and, if the donor has an email, sends it.
High-value items
If an item or a group of similar items is over the appraisal threshold, Muin shows Appraisal required. An inbox task opens for you to get a qualified appraisal and attach it to the donation record before the donor files IRS Form 8283.
Offline
No signal at the pickup? Keep going. Pickups are saved on the phone, and the app tells you they will sync when you are back online. They appear under Recent once they post.
What it affects
Each item is tied to your organization’s catalog and rolls up to the donor’s receipt and your in-kind reporting, including the Schedule M numbers on your Form 990. The donation shows on the donor’s record on the web.
When it goes wrong
- “Tag does not match any partner location.” The NFC sticker is not mapped to a partner. Pick the location by hand, and ask an administrator to map the tag.
- “Confirm this row before submitting.” An AI-filled row needs your check. Open it, fix the item or quantity, and confirm.
- “Open a pickup or walk-in first.” Photo entry adds to an open pickup. Start a pickup or a walk-in, then take the photo.
- “Camera permission denied.” Allow camera access for Muin Go in your phone settings.
