Scan a document, receipt or barcode on your phone

Use the Muin Go camera to scan a multi-page document, upload a file, or scan a barcode, and see where the scan goes after you send it.

Use your phone’s camera to get paper into Muin: scan a document page by page, upload a file that is already on your phone, or scan a product barcode.

When you’d use this

  • Someone hands you a signed form, an invoice or a contract and you want it in Muin now.
  • A PDF or photo is already on your phone and needs to go to Muin.
  • You want to look up a packaged item by its barcode.

Expense receipts have their own flow, so the receipt is attached to the claim. See Submit an expense on Muin Go. Donation checks have their own flow too: see Check capture.

Scan a document

  1. Go to Home → Documents & Capture → Scan Document.
  2. Allow camera access if your phone asks.
  3. Position the page in the frame and tap the capture button.
  4. For a document with more than one page, capture each page in order. The screen counts the pages you have captured.
  5. Tap the upload button to send all pages.
  6. When you see Upload Complete, tap Back to Documents.

After the upload, Muin reads the document in the background. The scan shows in My Documents on the phone and in Documents on the web, where the extracted details appear once processing finishes.

Upload a file from your phone

  1. Go to Home → Documents & Capture → Upload Document.
  2. Tap to pick a file.
  3. Choose the document type, or leave it on Auto-detect. The choices are Invoice, Contract, Bank Statement, Expense Report, Receipt, Report, Policy and Other.
  4. Tap Upload Document.

Scan a barcode

  1. Go to Home → Documents & Capture → Scan Barcode.
  2. Point the camera at the barcode.
  3. Muin looks up the product. When it finds an estimated value, it shows it.
  4. Tap Add to In-Kind to record it as a donated item, or Scan Another.

What it affects

  • A scanned or uploaded document becomes a document in your organization’s Documents area, with the same AI extraction and search as a document uploaded on the web.
  • A barcode added to In-Kind starts an in-kind donation record. See Record an in-kind donation.

When it goes wrong

  • “Camera permission required” or the camera does not open. Allow camera access for Muin Go in your phone’s settings, then reopen the screen.
  • “Upload Failed”. Check your connection and tap Retry. Document uploads need a connection and are not saved for later.
  • “Capture failed”. Close the screen and try again. If it keeps failing, check camera access.

Next step
