Running a School in Muin
How Muin models a weekend school, madrasah or academy: programs hold terms, classes hold meeting times, and students are enrolled then placed.
Muin runs your weekend school, madrasah or academy out of one place: a program holds the term, the classes inside it hold the meeting times, and children are enrolled in the program and then placed into classes.
When you’d use this
- You are setting up a school year in Muin for the first time and want the shape before the detail.
- You inherited a program somebody else built and need to know which screen owns what.
- You are deciding who on your staff gets which screens.
- Something is in the wrong place and you are not sure whether it belongs to the program, the class, or the child.
The spine
| Layer | What it holds | Where you manage it |
|---|---|---|
| Program | Term dates, days off, tuition, the registration form, attendance settings | Education Programs, then the program’s Program console |
| Level (optional) | A curriculum rung a child progresses along. Belongs to one program | Program console, Levels tab |
| Subject (optional) | What is taught, and which levels it serves | Program console, Curriculum tab |
| Group (optional) | Who is taught together. May span several levels, or sit at none | Program console, Groups tab |
| Class | A teacher, a room, and one or more meeting times | Program console, Classes tab, or the tenant-wide Classes list |
| Student placement | The child’s rung and the classes they actually attend | Class enrollment |
Levels, subjects and groups are all optional. A memorization or tutoring program that progresses per student has no ladder at all, and its setup never asks for one.
Who does what
| Role | Screens they live on |
|---|---|
| Coordinator or principal | Education Programs, the Program console, Class enrollment, Families & tuition, Class schedule |
| Teacher | My Classes, and the class register on the web or in the Muin app |
| Office or finance | Tuition owed across every program, and Families & tuition for one |
| Parent | The family portal, reached by a link rather than a password |
The walkthrough
- Sidebar, Nonprofit, Education, Education Programs. This is every program your organization runs and the one place to add another.
- Create the program with its name, its term dates and its tuition.
- Open the program, then Program console. This is where day-to-day setup happens. The console carries a running Setup N of 3 strip, so you do not have to remember the order.
- Build the timetable on the console’s tabs: Levels and Curriculum and Groups if you teach in levels, then Classes for each class, its meeting times, its room and its teacher.
- Get your students in, either by sharing the program’s registration form or by enrolling them yourself.
- Place them on Class enrollment, which shows the queue of enrolled children still waiting for a class beside the classes they could go into.
- Open the term. Publish the schedule, and turn on Show on public calendar for the classes families should see.
The Education menu
| Menu item | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Education Programs | Every education program, and the place to add one |
| Classes | Every class across every program, for the question “what is running and where are the empty seats” |
| Class schedule | The calendar view: what runs this month, and whether past sessions were covered |
| My Classes | A teacher’s own classes, today’s session, and take-attendance |
| Tuition Owed | The receivable across your whole organization |
| Days off | Holidays that close every program at once |
| Education Analytics | The education tab of the nonprofit analytics hub |
A single program’s own days off live on that program, next to its term dates. Days off in the menu is the organization-wide list, for Eid or a building closure typed once.
What it affects
- Creating a program with term dates generates the sessions every class inside it will meet, which is what the register, the timetable and the teacher time clock all read.
- Tuition set on the program is what the registration form quotes and what the family is charged, so changing it changes money.
- The attendance setting on the program decides whether student rosters and student-attendance reports exist at all.
- Placing a child into a group places them into every class that group attends.
When it goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your school sits under Service Programs, not Education | The program’s type is not educational | Change the program’s type; an educational program is listed under the Education menu |
| The whole Education menu is missing | The nonprofits.education capability is hidden for your tenant |
An owner re-enables it in module settings. It is on by default |
| You published the schedule and families still cannot see it | Publish puts sessions on the staff calendar only | Turn on Show on public calendar per class in the console’s Classes list |
| A teacher cannot open the Program console | Program administration needs programs or teacher-admin management rights | Teachers work from My Classes; give a coordinator the program rights instead |
Next step
Set up the program itself: Programs and terms.
