Languages and Vocabulary
Choose the languages your audience reads, stop fund names and other terms being mistranslated on your giving pages, rename the labels Muin uses, and watch what AI translation is costing you.
Two different jobs sit close together here: translating what your audience reads, and renaming what your own team sees.
When you’d use this
- Part of your community reads Arabic, Urdu, Spanish or Bengali and your giving pages are English only.
- A translation turned a person’s name, your fund name or a religious term into something wrong.
- Your organization says “congregation” where Muin says “members”, or “majlis” where Muin says “committee”.
- You want to know what AI translation has cost this month before turning on more languages.
Languages and Glossary
Owners and admins only.
- Go to Settings → Organization → Languages and Glossary.
- Audience languages is where you choose the languages your public pages, forms and events are offered in.
- Glossary protects individual terms. Select Glossary entry, enter the Source term, pick the Locale, and either give the exact translation to use or tick Never translate (keep as-is). Notes is optional. An Override marks an entry that replaces whatever the translator would have produced.
- Surfaces with translations lists every form, donation page and event that has translations. Select a row to open that surface’s own Translations tab.
Use Never translate for proper nouns: your organization’s name, fund names, program names and people’s names.
Translation usage
- Go to Settings → Organization → Translations and Usage.
- The screen reports the AI translation calls this organization has made this month, with a running total.
- “No translation activity yet” means nothing has been machine-translated this month.
This screen is a meter, not a control. Turn languages on and off in Languages and Glossary.
Vocabulary
- Go to Settings → Platform → Vocabulary.
- Apply Organization Preset swaps in a whole set of labels that suit your kind of organization in one step.
- To change one label, find its row and select Rename, then Edit label. A renamed row is marked Custom.
- AI Vocabulary Suggestions proposes terms it has seen in your own content. Suggest a New Term lets you submit one yourself with a Category, Term label and optional Description. You will see “Your suggestion has been submitted for review.”
- Reset to defaults puts every label back to Muin’s own wording.
Vocabulary changes the words on screens, menus and reports. It does not translate anything and it does not rename your data.
What it affects
- Audience languages change what a visitor can switch to on your public giving pages, forms, event pages and public calendar.
- A glossary entry applies everywhere that term is translated, including receipts and emails in that locale.
- Vocabulary changes labels across the whole workspace for everyone, including menu items and report headings.
- An organization preset overwrites every label it covers, including ones you renamed by hand.
When it goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “No translatable surfaces yet” with “Create a form, donation page, or event to see it here.” | There is nothing to translate yet. Publish a form, giving page or event first. |
| “Could not load glossary” or “Could not load surfaces” | Reload. No entry is lost; the screen simply could not read them. |
| “No translation activity yet” | Nothing has been machine-translated this month. Not an error. |
| A renamed label is back to Muin’s wording | An organization preset was applied after your rename. Rename it again, or stop applying the preset. |
| “No items available.” on Vocabulary | The category you are looking at has no configurable terms. |
