Card Readers and Hardware for Muin Go

Muin Go takes card payments two ways, and the right one is a per-device choice you make once in Pay Settings → Card Reader:

Rule of thumb: if the device is mounted or does more than a couple dozen taps a day, use a dedicated reader. Phone NFC was designed for handheld use — see Tap to Pay troubleshooting for why mounted devices struggle.

Buying a reader

Order through your Stripe Dashboard’s Hardware shop (dashboard.stripe.com/hardware), which shows the models and current prices for your country. For Muin Go’s external-reader mode, choose a network (WiFi/ Ethernet) reader — the BBPOS WisePOS E. During checkout Stripe registers the reader to one of your Terminal locations; if you’re asked to create one, use your venue’s address.

Stripe does not sell a wall-mount reader — every certified reader ships as handheld or countertop. Wall installations use a third-party bracket (next section).

Pairing the reader in Muin Go

Power the reader and connect it to the same network the tablet uses (Ethernet via the included dock, or WiFi from the reader’s settings).
On the device that will use it: Muin Go → Settings → Card Reader.
Choose External card reader, then Find Readers.
Tap your reader in the list. Done — the pairing survives restarts, and every checkout on this device now sends the customer to the reader’s screen automatically.

To go back to built-in Tap to Pay, open the same screen and either Unpair or select This device (Tap to Pay).

One current limitation: the POS cart checkout still uses Tap to Pay on the device itself even in external-reader mode. Every other flow — QuickPay, collect payment, pledges, event tickets, memberships, kiosk POS — uses the external reader.

Wall-mounting a reader next to a tablet

The recommended setup for a wall-mounted tablet station:

Positioning

Mount the reader within about 30 cm (12 in) of the tablet, at customer eye level, NFC face toward the customer. The customer should see one station, not two devices to choose between.
The tablet runs Muin Go (amount entry, fund selection, receipts); the reader handles the tap on its own screen.

Bracket

Use a third-party bracket made for your reader model — search your bracket vendor for the reader’s name. Generic kiosk-mount and VESA-adapter plates also work with the reader’s countertop dock. We deliberately don’t name specific bracket SKUs here; accessory inventory rotates. Budget roughly €30–80 / $30–90.
Pick a bracket that leaves the charging/Ethernet port accessible and doesn’t cover the reader’s NFC face (the top half of the front).

Power & network

The reader is cable-powered — no battery swaps. Route the power cable (and Ethernet, if used) inside the mount or trunking to the nearest outlet.
Prefer Ethernet where available; otherwise make sure the wall position has solid WiFi signal.

After installation

Run Pay Settings → Reader Check on the tablet — it verifies the pairing and the reader’s reachability.
Watch Payments → Terminals → Reliability in the web app for the first week. A dedicated reader at a fixed station should sit at 95%+ first-tap success.
