Muin Go mobile app overview

What the Muin Go phone app is for, who uses it, which modules it carries, and what keeps working when your phone has no signal.

Muin Go is the Muin app for iPhone, iPad and Android. It puts the parts of Muin you use away from a desk on your phone: taking payments, checking people in, filing expenses, recording donated goods and scanning documents.

When you’d use this

  • You are at the door of an event and need to check people in by QR code, card tap or name.
  • A volunteer bought supplies and wants to send the receipt for reimbursement from the store parking lot.
  • You are collecting a donation or a payment at a table, a booth or after a service.
  • You are picking up donated goods, or a donor drops items off at the front desk.

Who it is for

Muin Go is for the staff, teachers and volunteers of an organization that already uses Muin. You sign in with the same account you use on the web. What you see depends on two things:

  • Which modules your organization has turned on. A module that is off does not appear.
  • What your role allows. Your permissions in the app match your role on the web. A teacher sees their classes, a treasurer sees the expense review queue, and so on.

What is in the app

The app has three tabs at the bottom: Home, Ask Muin and Settings.

Home shows a card for each module you can use. Tap a card to open that module’s list of screens.

Module card What you can do from a phone
Smart Payments Collect a payment with Tap to Pay, Quick Pay, payment links, cash collection, transaction history, recurring giving, terminal settings, kiosk mode
Nonprofit In-kind donations, events and event check-in, the check-in desk, classes and the teacher time clock, education screens, meetings, expenses
Documents & Capture Scan a barcode, scan a document, upload a file, browse your documents
People Look up a person, add a person (including from your phone’s contacts)
HR Employee directory, time clock, timesheets
Communications Announcements, messages, broadcasts, notification preferences
Distribution Distribution events, recipient cards, the distribution desk
Facility Drill logs, inspection photos, key handovers, the occupancy certificate

Ask Muin is the assistant. Ask a question in plain words, by typing or by voice.

Settings holds your account, your organization, notifications, device settings such as the card reader or printer, kiosk mode, and Help & Support.

What works offline

Muin Go shows You are offline at the top of the screen when your phone loses its connection. Some work is saved on the phone and sent automatically when you are back online. Other work needs a live connection and the app tells you so instead of pretending it saved.

Saved on the phone and sent later Needs a connection
Event check-in and check-out (QR, card tap, roster) Card payments and Tap to Pay
Check-in desk scans Uploading a check photo (check capture)
Class time clock punches, with the real tap time Searching help and opening a guide
Expenses and receipt photos Recording that an expense was paid
In-kind pickups and walk-in donations Uploading scanned documents
Cash payments and quick-add donations
Teacher progress sheets
Facility drill logs and key handovers

Card payments are never queued. A card charge saved for later would be a promise the phone cannot keep, so an offline card payment is declined with a clear message. Take cash or a check instead.

What it affects

Everything you do in Muin Go lands in the same Muin account your team uses on the web. A check-in shows on the event roster, an expense shows in the approval queue, a payment shows in Payments on the web, and a donated item shows on the donor’s record.

When it goes wrong

  • A module you expect is missing from Home. Either the module is not turned on for your organization or your role does not include it. Ask your administrator to check your role on the web.
  • A red badge says something “didn’t save”. Tap it. The Work that didn’t save screen lists each item that could not be sent, with Try again on each one.
  • The app says Update Required. Your version is too old for the server. Tap Update Now to go to the App Store or Google Play.
