Take a payment on your phone with Tap to Pay

Collect donations, tuition, tickets and sales on Muin Go with Tap to Pay, a payment QR code, manual card entry or cash, and count and deposit cash collections.

Muin Go turns your phone into a card reader. A donor or customer taps their card, phone or watch on your phone and the payment goes into your Muin account with the right fund, campaign and receipt.

When you’d use this

  • You collect donations at a table after a service or at a fundraiser.
  • A parent pays tuition at the office, or someone buys a ticket at the door.
  • You sell items at a booth and want an itemized order.
  • The card will not tap and you need another way to take the payment.

Before your first payment

  • Your organization accepts card payments. An administrator connects payments on the web first. Until then, the app says Contact your administrator to enable Tap to Pay.
  • Your device supports Tap to Pay. iPhone XS or later on iOS 16.4 or later, or an Android phone with NFC turned on. iPads cannot take Tap to Pay.
  • Your role can process payments.

The first time you charge, Muin Go opens Tap to Pay setup. Accept the Tap to Pay terms when asked. To check everything at once, go to Settings → Payment Reader Check. It tests NFC, the internet connection, card payments for your organization, the terms, the device setting, and that developer options are off.

Collect a payment

  1. Go to Home → Smart Payments → Collect Payment.
  2. Enter the amount on the keypad.
  3. Pick the Payment Type: Donation, Tuition, Sale / Payment, Invoice Payment, Membership Dues, Event Ticket or Pledge Payment. Invoice, membership, ticket and pledge open their own screen so the payment is linked to the right record.
  4. For a donation, tap the allocation row to choose a campaign or fund. Add a note if you like. You can also make a donation recurring: weekly, monthly or quarterly.
  5. Tap the Tap to Pay button.
  6. On Confirm Payment, check the amount, type, allocation and whether a tax-deductible receipt will be issued. Tap Charge.
  7. Ask the payer to hold their card, phone or watch near the top of your phone.
  8. On Payment Complete, send the receipt by email, text message or WhatsApp, or let the donor enter their details.

Other ways to take the payment

Below the Tap to Pay button, or from Try Another Way after a failed tap:

Option What happens
QR Code (Payment Link) A QR code shows on your screen. The payer scans it and pays on their own phone.
Manual Card Entry You type the card details on a secure page.
Cash Records a cash payment for your books. No card fees.

For tuition paid at the office, the cash screen also takes a check, money order or Zelle payment against a child’s tuition and emails the family a payment receipt.

Sell items

On Collect Payment, switch from Quick Amount to Products. The screen becomes Point of Sale: add products to build an order, apply a discount, and charge. Quick amounts do not include tax; use Products for taxable sales.

For a fixed amount at an event booth, use Home → Smart Payments → Quick Pay: pick a preset amount and the payer taps their card or phone.

Count and deposit collected cash

  1. Go to Home → Smart Payments → Cash Collection and tap New count.
  2. Enter the total, or a denomination breakdown, and add envelopes with donor names and amounts.
  3. Pick a second counter. It must be a different person.
  4. Submit the session for approval.
  5. An approver opens the session and taps Approve, Return for Recount or Flag Discrepancy.
  6. After the bank run, open the session and tap Mark as Deposited. You can photograph the deposit receipt.

Other payment screens

  • Transaction History: search past payments and see each receipt.
  • Payment Links: create a link to collect a payment online.
  • Recurring Giving: manage recurring schedules and failed payments.
  • Terminal Settings: turn on Tap to Pay for this device, set preset amounts, tipping, and whether a receipt email is required.
  • Kiosk Mode: turn a tablet into a self-service giving screen. See Kiosks.

Offline

Card payments need a connection and are never saved for later. If your phone is offline, a card payment is declined with a message instead of being accepted and lost. Cash payments and quick-add donations are saved on the phone and sent when you reconnect.

What it affects

Every payment appears in Payments on the web with its type, fund or campaign, and receipt. Donations go on the donor’s giving history and tax receipts. Tuition is applied to the family’s balance. Counted cash becomes contributions when the deposit is reconciled.

When it goes wrong

  • Payment Timed Out: “The card was not detected in time.” Tap Try Again and hold the card flat near the top of the phone until it confirms.
  • Payment Failed: “No charge was made.” Ask for another card, or tap Try Another Way. Tap Run Reader Check if taps keep failing.
  • “This device does not support Tap to Pay.” Use the QR code or manual card entry, or use a supported phone.
  • “NFC isn’t available.” On Android, turn on NFC in your phone’s settings.
