Referral Credits & Eligibility

How Muin referral credits are calculated, when they're issued, when they stop, and what happens on refunds or cancellations.

This page covers the mechanics behind the referral program: exactly how credits are calculated, when they land, and the edge cases.

How Credits Are Calculated

  • Each credit is 10% of the referred organization’s plan list price — the standard price of their subscription tier, regardless of any discounts they receive.
  • Credits are issued once per paid month of the referral’s subscription, starting from their first payment.
  • Credits run for up to 12 paid months per referral. Months where the referee doesn’t pay (paused or lapsed) don’t count and don’t generate a credit.

How Credits Are Applied

Credits land on your account balance and automatically reduce your next invoice. You don’t need to redeem anything. The Refer a Friend page’s Effective Price shows your subscription price after current credits.

Eligibility Rules

  • Attribution window: a signup counts as your referral if it happens within 90 days of the person clicking your link, or if they enter your code at registration.
  • Concurrent cap: up to 7 referrals can be actively generating credits at once. Additional referrals still register — they queue against your cap as slots free up.
  • One referrer per organization: the last referral link clicked before signup wins attribution.
  • Referrals begin earning only when the referred organization makes its first subscription payment — trial signups show in your list but don’t generate credits yet.

When Credits Stop

Event Effect
Referral completes 12 paid months Credits for that referral end (their discount ends too)
Referred organization cancels The referral shows Churned; future credits stop
Referred organization’s payment is refunded or charged back Credits tied to that payment are reversed

Reversals appear in your Credit History so the math is always visible.

Fraud Protection

Referrals are screened automatically at signup. Self-referrals, duplicate accounts, and suspicious patterns can be flagged and held for review — flagged referrals don’t generate credits until cleared. If you believe a legitimate referral was flagged, contact support.

Common Questions

Do I get anything for a signup that never subscribes? No — credits require an active paid subscription. Signups and trials show in your list so you can see the pipeline.

Can I refer someone who already uses Muin? No, referral codes apply at registration only.

Do credits expire? Credits apply to your next invoice automatically; there’s nothing to redeem and nothing to lose track of.

Is this taxable income? In-app referral rewards are account credits that reduce what you pay, not cash payouts. For the cash affiliate track, tax documentation (Form 1099) applies per IRS thresholds — see the affiliate agreement.
