Types of Questions You Can Ask
Muin Chat understands a wide range of business questions.
Document Questions
Ask about specific documents or document content:
Examples:
- “What’s the total amount on invoice #1234?”
- “When is the Acme Corp contract due for renewal?”
- “Summarize the key terms in the NDA I uploaded yesterday”
- “What’s the payment method on the Smith Electric receipt?”
- “Show me the line items from last week’s purchase order”
How it works: Muin searches your documents, extracts relevant information, and presents it with source references.
Business Questions
Ask about your business data across documents and modules:
Examples:
- “What invoices are overdue?”
- “How much did we spend on office supplies this quarter?”
- “Which vendors have missing insurance certificates?”
- “Show me employees with certifications expiring in the next 30 days”
- “What’s our total outstanding AP balance?”
How it works: Muin queries across your data, aggregates information, and provides summaries with drill-down options.
Cross-Module Questions
Ask questions that span multiple business areas:
Examples:
- “What’s our overall compliance status?”
- “Give me a summary of Q4 activity”
- “What needs my attention today?”
- “Show me a vendor report with compliance scores and spend totals”
- “Which items are blocking our month-end close?”
How it works: Muin combines data from Finance, HR, Vendors, and other modules to give you a unified view.
Document Operations
Go beyond searching — create, merge, review, and adapt documents:
Examples:
- “Merge these three reports into a summary”
- “Review this contract for compliance issues”
- “Create a memo about Q4 results based on these documents”
- “Create email and WhatsApp versions of this policy update”
- “Do a gap analysis on our vendor onboarding documents”
How it works: Muin uses AI to analyze document content, generate new documents, and create channel-optimized versions for different communication platforms.
Comparison Questions
Ask Muin to compare data:
Examples:
- “How does this month’s spending compare to last month?”
- “Which vendor gave us the better price on widgets?”
- “Show me the difference between the original and amended contract”
- “Compare employee certification rates by department”
Trend Questions
Ask about patterns and changes over time:
Examples:
- “What’s the trend in our invoice processing time?”
- “Are we paying vendors faster or slower than last quarter?”
- “Show me certification compliance over the past year”
Taking Actions via Chat
Beyond asking questions, you can execute actions through chat.
Available Actions
| Action | Example Command |
|---|---|
| Create task | ”Create a task to follow up with Acme Corp” |
| Route for approval | ”Route this invoice to Sarah for approval” |
| Set reminder | ”Remind me about the contract renewal in 30 days” |
| Export data | ”Export these results to CSV” |
| Update status | ”Mark this invoice as paid” |
| Tag document | ”Add tag ‘urgent’ to this invoice” |
| Start workflow | ”Run the vendor onboarding workflow for this vendor” |
How to Take Action
- Ask your question or view data
- When you want to act, state your intent naturally:
- “Create a task for this”
- “Send this to John for review”
- “Export this list”
- Muin confirms the action before executing
- Approve or modify as needed
Action Confirmations
For actions that modify data, Muin asks for confirmation:
You: "Route this invoice to Finance Manager for approval"
Muin: "I'll create an approval request for Invoice #1234
($4,567.89 from Acme Corp) and assign it to Sarah Johnson
(Finance Manager). Should I proceed?"
You: "Yes" or "Confirm"
Muin: "Done! Approval request created. Sarah has been notified."
Quick Action Buttons
When Muin identifies an action you might want to take, it displays clickable action buttons directly in the chat response:
How Quick Actions Work:
- Contextual appearance - Buttons appear when relevant to your query
- One-click execution - No need to type a follow-up command
- Confirmation when needed - Destructive actions still require confirmation
Common Quick Action Buttons:
| Button | Appears When | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| View Details | Discussing a document/vendor | Opens the item in full view |
| Approve | Reviewing an approval request | Approves the item |
| Create Task | Discussing follow-up needed | Creates a task with context |
| Set Reminder | Time-sensitive discussion | Opens reminder creation |
| Export | Viewing data results | Downloads as CSV/PDF |
| Verify Vendor | Discussing vendor compliance | Starts verification process |
Example with Action Buttons:
You: "Show me vendors with expiring insurance"
Muin: "Found 3 vendors with insurance expiring in the next 30 days:
1. Acme Corp - Expires Jan 25 (7 days)
2. Smith Electric - Expires Feb 1 (14 days)
3. Metro Supply - Expires Feb 5 (18 days)
[View All] [Create Tasks] [Set Reminders] [Send Notifications]"
Clicking Create Tasks generates follow-up tasks for each vendor. Clicking Set Reminders creates reminders for each expiration date.
Creating Reminders via Chat
Ask Muin to create reminders using natural language:
Quick Reminder Creation
Simple reminders:
- “Remind me to follow up with Acme Corp tomorrow”
- “Set a reminder for the contract renewal in 30 days”
- “Remind me about the insurance expiration next Monday”
Reminders with context:
- “Remind me about this invoice when it’s due”
- “Create a reminder to check on this vendor verification”
Reminder Details
When you create a reminder, you can specify:
| Detail | Example |
|---|---|
| Title | ”Follow up with Acme” |
| Due date/time | ”tomorrow at 9am”, “in 2 weeks”, “March 15” |
| Priority | ”high priority reminder” |
| Linked item | Automatically linked to current context |
Example Reminder Flow
You: "Remind me to renew the office lease in 60 days"
Muin: "I'll create a reminder:
📅 Reminder: Renew office lease
⏰ Due: March 19, 2026 (60 days)
🔗 Linked to: Office Lease Agreement
[Create Reminder] [Modify] [Cancel]"
You: [clicks Create Reminder]
Muin: "Reminder created! You'll be notified on March 19.
[View Reminder] [View All Reminders]"
Managing Reminders
After creation, reminders appear in your Reminders page where you can:
- Snooze - Delay the reminder (1 hour, 1 day, 1 week)
- Edit - Change title, due date, or priority
- Complete - Mark as done
- Delete - Remove the reminder
Access your reminders anytime by saying “Show my reminders” or navigating to the Reminders page.
Tips for Better Results
Be Specific with Details
Less effective:
- “Show me invoices”
More effective:
- “Show me unpaid invoices from Acme Corp over $1,000”
Reference Document Numbers When Possible
Less effective:
- “What’s the total on that invoice I uploaded?”
More effective:
- “What’s the total on invoice #INV-2024-0892?”
Use Natural Date References
Muin understands natural language dates:
- “this month”
- “last quarter”
- “past 30 days”
- “next week”
- “before December 15th”
Ask Follow-Up Questions
Chat remembers context, so build on previous responses:
You: "Show me overdue invoices"
Muin: [displays list of 5 invoices]
You: "Which of these are from Acme Corp?"
Muin: [filters to show 2 Acme invoices]
You: "Create a task to follow up on the largest one"
Muin: [creates task for $4,500 invoice]
Use Specific Language for Actions
When you want to take action, be explicit:
- “Create a task…” (not “should we follow up?”)
- “Export this to CSV” (not “can I download this?”)
- “Route for approval” (not “this needs review”)
Understanding Chat Responses
Source Citations
When Muin references a document, you’ll see source citations:
Muin: "The payment terms are Net 30 from invoice date,
with a 2% early payment discount if paid within 10 days."
