Duty Exposure

See what tariffs will cost on purchase orders you have not paid yet, by HTS code and origin, and try a what-if tariff rate without saving anything.

Duty exposure shows what tariffs will cost on orders you have not paid yet. Every figure is an estimate, not booked.

Suggested, not a ruling. You or your licensed customs broker are responsible for what is filed. This is not legal advice.

When you’d use this

  • You want the tariff cost sitting in your open purchase orders before it lands.
  • A tariff rate is about to change and you want to see what it would do to your open orders.
  • Finance asks how much duty to plan for this quarter.

Read your exposure

  1. Go to Sidebar → Trade → Operations → Duty exposure.
  2. The table lists open purchase order lines with their HTS code, origin and Estimated duty.

The estimate uses each item’s confirmed classification and the origin on the PO line. Lines with no code are counted and listed so you can classify them. A line with no origin carries no estimate and stays out of the totals, because the duty depends on where the goods are from.

The shipped rate table holds the standard (MFN) rates. When it does not include Section 301, Section 232 or antidumping and countervailing duties, the page says so, and the duty owed can be higher than the estimate.

Try a what-if rate

  1. Under Scenario rate, enter the start of an HTS code in HTS code starts with.
  2. Enter a Rate (%) from 0 to 1000.
  3. Click Try this rate. The open lines under that code are re-priced at that rate.
  4. Click Back to current rates to return.

Nothing is saved. A what-if changes no PO and no estimate.

What it affects

  • Nothing. This screen reads your open orders; it books nothing to your ledger.
  • The numbers move when you confirm a classification, change a PO line’s origin, or pay a PO.

When it goes wrong

What you see What it means How to clear it
“N lines have no code. Classify them.” Some open lines have an item with no confirmed HTS code, so they carry no estimate. Classify those items.
“No origin” on a line The PO line has no country of origin, so it has no estimate and is not in the totals. Set the origin on the PO line.
“Not included: Section 301, Section 232 and antidumping and countervailing duties.” The rate table does not hold these extra duties, so the estimate can be low. Check those duties with your licensed customs broker.
“No open order lines yet” No unpaid PO lines have tariff data. Classify items, set origin on PO lines, and open a PO.
“Enter a rate from 0 to 1000.” The what-if rate is outside the allowed range. Enter a percentage from 0 to 1000.
“Enter the start of an HTS code, digits and dots only.” The code prefix has other characters. Use digits and dots only.
