Trade Module Overview
What the Trade module does in Muin: HTS classification, customs entries, party screening, duty exposure, origin proof, export checks, licenses, trade documents and tariff refund packages for your broker.
Trade shows what your tariff costs and trade risks look like today, and what needs a decision. Muin is decision support: it suggests, estimates and organizes your own records. You and your licensed customs broker decide what is filed.
Suggested, not a ruling. You or your licensed customs broker are responsible for what is filed. This is not legal advice.
When you’d use this
- You want one place that shows your open tariff exposure, unresolved screening hits and licenses about to run out.
- You are setting Trade up for the first time and want the order to do it in.
- A colleague cannot see a Trade screen and you need to know why.

Getting started
- Go to Sidebar → Trade → Operations → Overview.
- The first time, you are asked to accept the Trade terms. Click Accept the Trade terms. This happens once per workspace.
- Follow Set up Trade: classify your items, bring in your customs entries, and screen your suppliers. Once those three steps are done, your tariff costs and risks show on the Overview.
Who can open it
The Trade module has to be enabled for your workspace. Each screen then has its own permission (classification, screening, duty exposure, origin, export compliance, documents, refunds), and the menu shows only the screens your role is granted. Customs entries and Tariff refunds share the refunds permission; Export shipments and Licenses share the export compliance permission. The Overview opens for anyone who holds at least one of them.
What it affects
- Classification codes you confirm re-estimate the duty on open purchase orders with that item.
- A screening hit that is confirmed holds purchase orders to that party.
- Nothing in Trade files anything with CBP, BIS or OFAC. Muin builds packages and answers for you and your broker to act on.
When it goes wrong
| What you see | What it means | How to clear it |
|---|---|---|
| No Trade menu at all | The module is not enabled, or your role holds no Trade permission. | Ask an administrator. |
| A Trade screen missing from the menu | Your role does not hold that screen’s permission. | Ask an administrator to grant it. |
| “A list that could not be reached shows unverified, never clear. Reload.” | A screening list could not be checked when the page loaded. | Click Reload. Treat the party as unverified until it checks. |
Next step
- Classification: the first setup step.
- Customs entries and licenses: bring in your entries.
- Screening: screen your suppliers.
