Payouts

See every transfer of collected payments to your bank account, where each one is in settlement, and which funds each deposit is made up of.

A payout is the transfer of money you have collected into your bank account. This screen shows every one of them, where each is in settlement, and, for a nonprofit, which funds a single bank deposit is made up of.

When you’d use this

  • A deposit landed in your bank and you need to know what it was made of.
  • Your treasurer asks how much of last week’s deposit was restricted money.
  • A payout has not arrived and you want to see whether it failed.
  • You are closing the month and need the fund-level settlement export.

Where it lives

Sidebar → Smart Payments → Payouts. You need permission to view payouts and disbursements.

Payouts require a connected Stripe account. If payouts are not available for your payment provider, the screen says so.

Reading the payout list

The table shows Date, Amount, Status, Arrival Date and Bank Account, 20 rows at a time. Filter with the status dropdown: All Statuses, Pending, In Transit, Paid, Failed.

Status What it means
Pending Created, not yet sent to the bank.
In Transit On its way to your bank.
Paid Deposited.
Failed Did not complete.

Click a row to open the Payout Timeline, which walks Created → In Transit → Deposited, with the amount, destination, creation date and expected arrival. Until it is paid, the last step shows an estimated date.

Payouts are typically made daily and arrive within two business days. The payout schedule is set on your Stripe account, not in Muin, and Muin has no setting to change it.

If payouts pause, that is your payment provider’s decision, usually because the account has outstanding verification requirements. The screen does not state a reason; check your Stripe account status under Smart Payments → Settings → Stripe Connect.

Settlement by fund

The Settlement by fund card answers “what was this deposit made of?” It maps each bank deposit to your funds, including restricted ones.

  1. Set Arrival date from and Arrival date to.
  2. Read each deposit: the amount, the last four digits of the destination account, the arrival date, and the provider’s payout reference.
  3. Open a deposit to see its fund table: Fund, Restriction (Restricted or Unrestricted), Gifts, Gross, Fees, Net. Gifts, fees and refunds also appear as their own lines, and the lines sum to the bank deposit.
  4. To export, choose Export format (CSV or Excel) and press Export.

Each deposit carries a state:

  • Ties out: the fund lines add up to the deposit.
  • Needs review: there is a variance. Open the deposit to see where.
  • Not yet itemized: Muin has not yet received the deposit’s contents from the provider, so its funds are unknown. The daily sync fills this in.

A warning above the list tells you how many payouts do not yet tie out.

What it affects

  • A completed payout sends a payout notification email and raises a live event in the app. A failed payout raises an event but no email.
  • The settlement breakdown is what reconciles a single bank line to the restricted and unrestricted money inside it, which is the figure your audit needs.
  • Nothing on this screen moves money. It reads what the provider did.

When it goes wrong

“Stripe account not connected.” Connect your account under Smart Payments → Settings → Stripe Connect.

“Stripe account is not connected or access was revoked. Reconnect the account to view payouts.” The connection was revoked. Reconnect it in Settings.

“Payouts are not available for your payment provider.” Your provider does not expose payouts to Muin. Read them in your provider’s own dashboard.

“Payout Failed. The payout could not be completed. Please check your bank details.” The destination account rejected the transfer. Fix the bank details on your Stripe account; the money stays in your balance and goes out on the next payout.

“No payouts in this date range yet.” Nothing has been deposited in that window. Widen the dates.

“Could not load the settlement breakdown.” Press Try again. An empty breakdown after this message is not a clean result.

A deposit says “Not yet itemized”. This is normal for a new payout. The daily sync itemizes it; check back the next day rather than treating the blank as zero.

A deposit says “Needs review”. Open it and compare the lines against the deposit total. A variance usually means a refund or a fee landed in a different payout than the gift.
