Kiosk Authoring — Social Proof
Configure the urgency banner, donor wall opt-in policy, and the live social-proof toggles that surface gift activity on the kiosk.
The Social Proof tab controls the live social signals on your kiosk — the urgency banner that counts down to a deadline, the donor wall that shows recent gifts, and the donor count strip that displays “47 donors this hour.” These signals move donors who are on the fence; configured well, they convert. Configured poorly, they feel pushy.
Urgency End Date
The urgency banner appears at the top of the kiosk when an end date is set. It counts down to the deadline:
- More than 7 days out: hidden
- 2–7 days out: “5 days left to give”
- 1 day out: “1 day left to give”
- Last day: “Ends today”
- Past the date: hidden (the banner disappears automatically)
Setting the date
- Click the date picker.
- Choose your campaign’s last day.
- The banner shows in the live preview immediately.
The date is timezone-aware — the kiosk uses the tenant’s configured timezone, so “Ends today” means the donor’s local day.
When to use urgency
Urgency works best when it’s real:
- Real deadline: Giving Tuesday, last day of Ramadan, end-of-year deadline, capital campaign close
- Avoid: artificial urgency on an open-ended general giving campaign — donors notice when the same “ends today” message has been there for two weeks
Leave the date blank for general or always-on campaigns.
Donor Wall Opt-In
The donor wall shows recent gifts on a scrolling strip — “Sarah just gave $50 to support the food drive.” It’s social proof in its most direct form.
The opt-in policy
The platform’s default is opt-in OFF at the per-donation level. Visitors who give see a checkbox: “Show my name on the donor wall (first name + last initial only). You can revoke this in your receipt email.” If they leave it unchecked, their gift never appears on any donor wall.
Founder constraint (locked): tenants cannot pre-toggle this ON. The donor’s explicit consent on each gift is required. This is a privacy decision, not a configuration knob.
Custom opt-in prompt
You can customize the prompt text shown to donors. The platform default English copy is:
“Show my name on the donor wall (first name + last initial only). You can revoke this in your receipt email.”
To change it, contact Muin support to request a custom opt-in prompt for your organization. Custom prompts are configured at the platform level and applied to your kiosk on request. Keep the text under 200 characters.
Common customizations:
- Translation to the tenant’s primary language
- Tone match (formal for a memorial campaign, casual for youth)
- Faith-specific phrasing where appropriate
Donor Count Toggle
The donor count strip shows “47 donors this hour” or “1,200 donors this campaign” depending on the metric configured. It’s a momentum signal — donors are more likely to give when they see others giving.
When to enable
Enable when:
- The campaign has steady traffic (>10 gifts/hour during peak)
- You want to amplify a “wave” effect at events
- Your donor base responds to community signals
Disable when:
- Traffic is low (a stale “3 donors this campaign” feels worse than no count)
- The campaign is a small private appeal (memorial, family fund)
- The signal would mislead (a single $10,000 gift from one donor)
The toggle has no per-donor privacy implications — counts are aggregated and contain no identifying information.
Recent Donors Strip Toggle
The recent donors strip is a horizontal scrolling band showing the last 5–10 donors who opted in to the donor wall. It scrolls slowly across the screen between idle moments.
Behavior
- Only shows donors with
show_on_donor_wall=trueon their gift - Renders as
Sarah M. — $25orAnonymous — $50based on opt-in choice - Scrolls at a slow, readable pace
- Empty state: shows a soft hint copy if no donors have opted in yet (handled gracefully — no awkward blank space)
When to enable
Enable on lobby kiosks and donor-wall-mode displays. Disable on event-day high-velocity kiosks where the strip would compete with the donation flow itself.
First-week behavior
When you first turn on the strip (or roll out donor wall opt-in for the first time), the strip will appear empty until donors actually opt in. The empty-state hint copy makes this graceful: “Be the first to add your name.”
Tips
- Pick one or two social signals, not all three. Urgency + donor count is plenty; adding the recent strip on top crowds the screen and dilutes attention.
- Test urgency dates with a real countdown. The “ends today” copy fires on the campaign’s last calendar day — verify your timezone math by setting a near-term date and previewing.
- Translate the opt-in prompt if your donor base reads better in another language. The platform default is English; the prompt is one of the highest-visibility strings on the kiosk.
- Watch the donor count baseline. A “3 donors this hour” signal during a slow Tuesday looks discouraging — disable the count outside event windows if you can.
- The donor wall is opt-in, always. No exceptions. If a donor calls and says “but I told you it was fine,” log it; the platform records consent at the gift level so you can verify.
Common Issues
| Issue | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Urgency banner not showing | End date is more than 7 days out OR in the past | Set a date within the 7-day window before campaign close |
| Donor wall empty | No donors have opted in OR show_on_donor_wall filter excluding all rows | Verify the empty-state hint shows; wait for opt-ins to accumulate |
| Donor count shows zero | Aggregate metric not yet computed (first 5 min after a campaign goes live) | Wait for the metric backfill; refresh after 5 minutes |
| Opt-in checkbox stuck on | Old kiosk config cached | Force a config refresh on the device |
