Portals and Community Settings

Control what members see and how they sign in, what appears on your public calendar, how prayer times are computed, how zakat is collected, and which advisors can see your dashboard.

These five screens control what people outside your staff see: your members, your congregation, visitors to your public pages, and the advisors you choose to let in.

When you’d use this

  • A member signed in and saw an area that is empty and confusing.
  • Your community asked for prayer times on the website, or the board times do not match Muin’s.
  • You collect zakat and need it kept separate from general giving.
  • Your accountant or consultant needs to see your dashboard without being added to the team.

Member portal

  1. Go to Settings → Organization → Member Portal.
  2. What members see lists each portal area. Set each one to Always show so members can discover it, Only when they have activity so it appears once there is something in it, or Hide to remove it entirely. This controls both the portal menu and the tiles on the portal home page.
  3. How members sign in chooses the doors: a 6-digit code by email or text message, a one-click sign-in link by email, and Continue with Google or Continue with Apple.
  4. Select Save. Success reads “Member portal updated.”

There are no member passwords. Muin states the rule plainly on the screen: a Google or Apple sign-in only works when that account’s email matches a person you already have on file. Anyone else is told they are not in the system rather than being signed in.

Public calendar

  1. Go to Settings → Communication and AI → Public Calendar.
  2. The screen tells you the address it governs: your public calendar at /go/{your-slug}/calendar.
  3. Choose what shows there, then Save changes. Open public calendar opens the live page so you can check it.
  4. A banner reads “You have unsaved changes” until you save or Discard.

Put the calendar on your own website

The Embed widget section on the same screen gives you the embed code and the list of websites allowed to show it.

  1. Under Allowed origins, enter your website’s address as a full https:// URL, for example https://www.example.org, and press Enter. Add each site that will show the calendar.
  2. Select Save changes. Until an origin is saved, embeds are blocked: the screen reads “No origins yet. Embeds will be blocked by CSP.”
  3. Under Embed code, select Copy and paste the snippet into your website’s HTML where the calendar should appear.

If the calendar shows on your site as a blank frame, check that the site’s exact address is in Allowed origins and that you saved. For general embed problems, see Embedding Muin.

Prayer times

  1. Go to Settings → Organization → Prayer Times.
  2. Location needs a Label (for example, Main prayer hall), Latitude, Longitude and Timezone. The screen is blunt about why: “Prayer times are a function of position, there is no safe default.”
  3. Calculation sets the convention your community follows: Calculation method, Fajr angle, Isha angle or an Isha interval in minutes after Maghrib, Asr madhhab, a High-latitude rule, and daylight saving handling.
  4. Iqama sets when the congregation starts, either as Minutes after the adhan or a Fixed board time.
  5. Manual corrections adds minutes to each computed adhan so Muin matches a board your community already reads.
  6. Today shows exactly what your congregation and your public page see right now.

Times are computed daily and published to your calendar and your public page.

Zakat

  1. Go to Settings → Organization → Zakat.
  2. Fund that receives zakat points at a fund you have marked zakat-eligible.
  3. Programs a zakat donor may choose lists the programs you have marked zakat-eligible.
  4. Where undesignated zakat is attributed names the fallback program for a zakat gift given with no program chosen.

A fund must exist and be marked zakat-eligible before any of this is selectable. The screen says so: “Create a fund and mark it zakat-eligible before collecting zakat.”

Advisor access

  1. Go to Settings → Organization → Advisor Access.
  2. Select Grant Advisor Access, enter the Advisor Email, and confirm.
  3. Current Advisors lists everyone who has access, with Revoke beside each.

An advisor sees your organization’s dashboard. They are not a team member and hold no role in your organization.

What it affects

  • Member portal visibility changes the menu and home tiles for every member immediately.
  • Removing a sign-in method locks out members who were using it, so leave at least one on.
  • Prayer-time settings feed your public page, your calendar and any screen or signage showing times.
  • The zakat fund decides where zakat money lands in your ledger, which flows into your statements and reports.
  • Revoking an advisor ends their access to the dashboard on the next page load.

When it goes wrong

What you see What to do
“Couldn’t load member-portal settings.” Reload. Nothing was changed.
“Couldn’t save. Try again.” Reload and set the visibility again; earlier saves are unaffected.
A member says Google sign-in told them they are not in the system Their Google address does not match a person on file. Add or correct that person’s email in the people directory.
“We could not load the prayer-time settings.” Reload. Your stored configuration is unchanged.
“Fix the highlighted fields before saving.” Latitude, longitude and timezone are required; there is no default position.
“No zakat-eligible fund yet” Create a fund and mark it zakat-eligible first.
“No zakat-eligible programs yet” Mark the programs that serve eligible recipients as zakat-eligible.
“Failed to load public calendar settings. Please try again.” Reload. Your public calendar keeps its current settings meanwhile.
