Organization Profile
Set your legal and trading identity, address, currency and timezone (which decides the day an invoice is due or overdue), the company profile that steers AI answers, and the nonprofit identity fields that drive receipts and memberships.
Three screens describe who your organization is: the legal record, the profile the AI reads, and the nonprofit identity that receipts and memberships depend on.
When you’d use this
- You are setting Muin up for the first time and nothing is filled in yet.
- Your legal name, EIN or address changed and documents are still showing the old one.
- Agents and chat answers feel generic and you want them to know your industry and mission.
- Receipts are not being generated, or the wrong receipt threshold is in force.
Company: the legal record
- Go to Settings → Organization → Company. Owners and admins only.
- Company Information holds Company Name (required), Legal Name, Industry, Phone Number, Website and Tax ID / EIN.
- Business Address holds Street, City, State/Province, Postal Code and Country.
- Regional Settings holds Date and Number Format, Default Currency and Timezone (required).
- Select Save Changes, or Reset Changes to drop your edits. Success reads “Company profile has been updated successfully.”
The screen also exposes your URL slug, the Communication Hub, data residency and divisions, and links out to Branding and Team and Roles.
Non-profits also see Places you also serve: the other counties and cities you serve beyond your address. Enter a state, a county and, if you like, a city, then Add place. Grant searches look for local funders there as well as where your address is. A county that does not exist in that state, or a city that is not a real place in that county, is refused by name and nothing is saved.
Company Profile: what the AI knows about you
- Go to Settings → Organization → Company Profile.
- Profile Completeness shows, as a percentage, how much the agents have to work with.
- Fill in Industry and Sub-Industry, Business Description (with an Improve with AI helper and a character counter), Mission Statement, Target Customers, and Geographic Focus as chips from North America through to Global.
- Apply Industry Template pre-fills the whole profile from a template for your sector.
- The save bar reads “You have unsaved changes” until you select Save Changes, or Discard.
Fill in from public filings
The Fill in from public sources card on the Company Profile drafts your profile for you. Nothing is saved until you choose Save.
- Click Suggest from website and filings. Muin reads your website and your public tax filings.
- Each suggestion (Mission statement, Programs and activities, Service area, Sub-industry, Annual budget) has a Use button that copies it into the form, and the card lists its Sources.
- If your website blocks automated reads, or no website is on file, the card says so and drafts from web search results about your organization instead.
- If web search could not be read, the card warns that the suggestions may be missing details. If Muin could not draft suggestions at all, the card says so, and that this does not mean nothing public was found; press Try again.
- Select Save Changes to keep what you used.
Below it, Your public filings shows revenue and expenses by tax year (with the form type), the programs from the latest filing with their expenses and people served, and government grants per year. It reads Filings read 7 Oct 2026 with a Refresh button.
- No EIN on file: the card shows Add your EIN to load your filings.
- EIN not found: No public filings found for EIN 12-3456789. Check the number. Nothing was filled in.
Annual budget sits under Grant Matching and lets grant matching weigh award sizes that fit your organization. When you use the suggested budget it comes from total expenses on your latest public filing, with the year shown.
Nonprofit Settings: your charitable identity
Available when the Nonprofits module is on and you hold the governance permission.
- Go to Settings → Organization → Nonprofit Settings.
- Work through the tabs: Features, Donations, Memberships, Volunteers, Distribution, Cases, Eligibility, Class Alerts and QR Codes.
- Features sets Organization Type, and switches for Donations, the Donor Wall, and whether parents can request a class change.
- Donations sets Major Donor Minimum and Mid-Level Minimum, whether tax receipts are auto-generated and auto-emailed, the minimum amount for a tax receipt, the Minimum Donation, and whether donors may cover processing fees, give anonymously, give in honor or in memory, see a fundraising thermometer, and whether new giving pages join the donor wall by default.
- Memberships sets the Grace Period in days before a membership fully lapses, and auto-renewal.
- Changes save on their own after a pause, and Save Changes commits them immediately.
Receipt wording and defaults live with payments, not here. Nonprofit Settings links to Payments → Receipt Defaults for that.
What it affects
- Timezone drives every displayed time, every scheduled send and every report period across the platform.
- Timezone also decides which calendar day counts as today. An invoice, pledge, grant installment or certificate is due, overdue or expired on your organization’s calendar, not on the server’s, so a facility booking for this evening is never refused as already passed.
- Default Currency and the number format drive invoices, receipts, statements and exports.
- Legal Name and Tax ID appear on tax receipts, 1099s and year-end statements.
- The Company Profile is read by chat and by the agents, so a thin profile produces generic answers.
- The donation thresholds decide which gifts generate a receipt at all, and which donors count as major or mid-level in giving analytics.
When it goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Failed to load company profile. Please try again.” | Reload. Nothing was saved, so your stored profile is unchanged. |
| “Failed to update company profile. Please try again.” | Check the required fields, Company Name and Timezone, then save again. |
| A state-code hint under State/Province | Pick the value from the list. A free-typed code that is not a US state, district or territory is rejected. |
| “Failed to load tenant profile settings.” | Reload the Company Profile screen; the Company record is a separate screen and is unaffected. |
| Nonprofit Settings is missing from the menu | The Nonprofits module is off, or you do not hold the governance permission. See Managing Modules. |
| “Failed to save settings” on Nonprofit Settings | The banner carries the server’s own reason. Fix the named field and save again. |
