The Muin WordPress Plugin
Install the Muin plugin, connect it with a connect code from a Product Home, and place the Support Agent, the Donate button or the rental request form on any WordPress page with a block or a shortcode.
The Muin plugin puts three Muin products on a WordPress site: the Support Agent, the Donate button for Online Giving, and the rental request form for Space Rentals. You set each product up on its Product Home in Muin. The plugin only places it on your site.
You can connect one product, two, or all three. A product you have not connected shows nothing on your site.
Watch it done: a short walkthrough video of connecting a WordPress site.
Before you start
- WordPress 6.5 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
- A Muin account. In the plugin, Connect to Muin opens Muin sign-up if you do not have one; after you sign up, Muin opens the page of the product you chose.
- Signing up for the Support Agent or Space Rentals starts a 30-day trial. No card is needed. The Support Agent goes back to its free tier when the trial ends.
- Online Giving has no monthly price and no trial. You pay processing fees only.
- An administrator login on the WordPress site.
Install and connect
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New, install the Muin plugin and press Activate. To install from the plugin zip, use Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Open Settings → Muin. Each product has its own row.
- In Muin, open Products and the product you want. In Connect your website, press Create a connect code. The code works once and expires after 10 minutes.
- Back in WordPress, paste the code into that product’s Connect code field and press Connect. The row reads “Connected to” your organization’s name.
- Repeat for each product you want on the site.
On the Product Home in Muin, Connected websites now lists your site with its plugin version and when it was last seen.
Put a product on a page
Edit a page, add the product’s block, and publish:
| Product | Block | Shortcode |
|---|---|---|
| Support Agent | Muin Support Agent | [muin-support] |
| Online Giving | Muin Donate Button | [muin-donate] |
| Space Rentals | Muin Rental Request Form | [muin-rental-request] |
Product settings in the plugin:
- Support Agent: tick Show the chat bubble on every page and press Save to show the bubble site-wide instead of only where you add the block.
- Space Rentals: Request form names the form the block shows. The default is
rental-request, the form Run setup publishes. To use another form, copy its address from Install on your website in Muin (the part after/form/), paste it here and press Save. The row then reads “Showing:” and the form’s title.
Nothing loads on pages without a Muin block, unless you turn on the site-wide chat bubble.
How Muin knows it is installed
The plugin reports to Muin once a day, and when you change a Muin setting. Press Check connections now to report straight away.
- Online Giving: a connected site with the Donate block turns “Donate button seen on your website” to Seen on the Product Home.
- Support Agent: “The snippet is live on your website” turns to “Seen on” your site the first time the chat loads on a page.
Disconnect
- In WordPress, press Disconnect on a product’s row. Its block shows nothing until you connect again, and Muin revokes that site’s key.
- In Muin, press Disconnect next to the site under Connected websites. The product stops showing on that site right away. After the plugin’s next check, its row reads “Disconnected in Muin. Create a new connect code to reconnect.”
- Deleting the plugin disconnects every product and removes the plugin’s settings. Your Muin account and its data stay as they are.
When it goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “This connect code is not valid” | Codes last 10 minutes and work once. Create a new one on the Product Home |
| “Paste the connect code from the product’s page in Muin.” | The code field was empty. Paste the code, then press Connect |
| The Rental Request Form block shows nothing | The Request form setting names a form Muin cannot find, or the form is not published. Copy the form address from Install on your website and save it again |
| The chat bubble does not appear | Add the Muin Support Agent block to the page, or turn on Show the chat bubble on every page. If you listed allowed websites in Support Settings in Muin, add your site’s address |
| “Not checked yet” on a connected product | Press Check connections now |
FAQ
Is the plugin free? Yes. You pay only for the Muin products you use: the Support Agent has a free plan with 50 conversations a month, Online Giving has no plan fee (processing fees only), and Space Rentals starts at $29 a month for up to 2 spaces.
Can I use just one of the three products? Yes. Connect only the ones you want.
Where do I change answers, prices, spaces or giving pages? In Muin, on the product’s Product Home and the screens it links to. The plugin only places the product on your site.
Does it work without WordPress? Yes. Every Product Home has Install on your website with a snippet and guides for Wix, Squarespace and GoDaddy.
Can one site carry all three products? Yes. Connect each product with its own code. Disconnecting one leaves the others connected.
Does the plugin slow my site down? Each block adds one small script or frame from Muin. Pages without a Muin block load nothing from Muin unless the site-wide chat bubble is on.
What does the plugin send to Muin? Your site address, the plugin and WordPress versions, a random id for your site, and which Muin products are placed on it. It sends nothing about your visitors from your server.
