Week Plans, Syllabus Units and Exam Scope

Post the week's plan on Monday and the recap on Friday, carry untaught topics forward, send families one weekly email, build syllabus units per subject and level, and tell families what an exam covers before it happens.

Each class has one week plan per week: what the teacher plans to cover, the goals and the homework. At the end of the week the teacher posts the recap: which topics were actually taught, notes, and how the week went. Families can get one email about the class each week, and one digest per child.

When you’d use this

  • Your teachers already send a weekly note home and you want it in one place.
  • You want to know, per class, what was planned and what was actually covered.
  • Your school builds a syllabus per level and wants exams to point at it.
  • You want families to know what an exam covers before the day.

Where teachers find it

Who Where
Teacher My teaching, then the class session, then the This week card. A teacher does not need access to the class hub
Coordinator or program director The class hub, Week tab
Teacher on a phone The Muin app, Education, My teaching, the class, then the week plan

The week plan

  1. Add this week’s topics. Each topic can point at a syllabus unit. Add goals and homework.
  2. Post the plan. A posted plan can still be edited to fix a typo.
  3. On Friday, tick what you covered, add notes and pick how it went: well, mixed or difficult. Then Post recap.

You cannot post a recap before the plan is posted. Muin says “Post the week plan first”.

Untaught topics carry forward. A topic the recap did not mark taught, or one nobody recapped, moves into next week’s draft with a Carried from last week chip, so nothing drops silently.

Use the week switcher to look back at earlier weeks.

What families receive

Two parent messages come from the week plan. Both are off until your school turns them on (see School communications):

Message What it is
Weekly class email The posted week plan, once per class per week
Weekly child digest Per child, after the recap: what was taught, plus that child’s homework, attendance and marks

They go out on the weekday and hour you set. The platform default is Friday at 17:00 in your organization’s time zone.

The staff reminder

The No week plan yet class alert tells the teacher of record and the coordinators when a class meets this week and has no posted plan by Tuesday at 12:00. It is told once per class per week, and it is off until you turn it on at Settings, Nonprofit, Class Alerts.

Syllabus units

Program console, Curriculum tab, Syllabus.

A syllabus unit belongs to a subject and, if you teach in levels, to a level. Units are an ordered list: add, rename, reorder and delete them. A unit that a week plan or an exam already points at cannot be deleted; Muin says what is using it.

Exam scope and review sheets

Class hub, Gradebook tab, then open the assessment’s scope.

An assessment can carry:

  • a scope, the written description of what it covers (up to 4,000 characters),
  • a review sheet file,
  • the syllabus units it covers.

A midterm is its own assessment kind, next to exam and final.

If the Exam scope parent message is on and the assessment has a due date and a scope or review sheet, families are told what the exam covers a set number of days before its due date, once per child. The default is 5 days, and you can set 1 to 21.

When it goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
“Post the week plan first” The recap needs a posted plan Post the plan, then the recap
A topic appears again next week The recap did not mark it taught Tick it taught on that week’s recap, or remove it from this week
Families did not get the weekly email The weekly messages are off, or the plan was not posted Turn them on in School communications, and post the plan
No exam-scope email arrived The assessment has no due date, no scope and no review sheet, or the Exam scope message is off Give it a due date and a scope or review sheet, and turn the message on
“‘Unit 3’ is used by 1 assessment(s) and 2 week plan topic(s); remove it there first.” A week plan topic or an exam points at the unit Remove it from those first, then delete
