What does the Trade module do?
Trade shows what your tariff costs and trade risks look like today, and what needs a decision. It covers:
- **Classification** - Muin suggests an HTS code for each item; a person on your team confirms it and writes the reason
- **Customs entries** - upload 7501s or an ACE export and watch liquidation dates
- **Screening** - parties are checked against the U.S. Consolidated Screening List; a person resolves every potential match
- **Duty exposure** - estimated duty on open purchase orders, with what-if rates
- **Origin** - request origin declarations from suppliers
- **Export shipments** - a license determination aid by ECCN or EAR99, destination and end user
- **Licenses** - export licenses, import permits and OFAC specific licenses with what remains of each
- **Trade documents** - find, compare and export bills of lading and customs declarations
- **Tariff refunds** - refund packages for your licensed customs broker
This is not legal advice.
Does Muin file anything with CBP, BIS or OFAC?
No. Nothing in Trade files anything with CBP, BIS or OFAC. Muin builds packages and answers for you and your broker to act on.
Suggested, not a ruling. You or your licensed customs broker are responsible for what is filed.
Can I rely on the HTS code Muin suggests?
Suggested, not a ruling. You or your licensed customs broker are responsible for what is filed.
Read the suggestion as a starting point. A person on your team checks the code, writes the reason and clicks **Confirm**. Every confirmed code stays in the item's history with who confirmed it and when.
What does a screening result mean?
A screening result, not a clearance. Review every potential match against the official list before you act.
Muin checks parties against the U.S. Consolidated Screening List. Each potential match waits for a person on your team to resolve it. A list that could not be checked shows as **unverified**.
How do tariff refund packages work?
A package for your broker, not a filing.
A refund scan reads your customs entries and lists possible refunds. You build a package by legal basis, with each entry's protest, USMCA claim and drawback dates, attach the evidence and download a CSV. You can also send your broker a read-only link. It expires 14 days after you send it, and the broker needs no Muin account.
Does Muin remind me before a license runs out?
Yes. Muin reminds you 60 and 30 days before a license runs out. Each license card also shows what remains of its quantity and value, and an export shipment that ships under a license draws it down.
Does Muin tell me whether an export needs a license?
A determination aid, not a BIS ruling or a license. You are responsible for your export classification and any license you need.
Enter the ECCN or EAR99, the destination and the end user, and read the answer before the shipment leaves.
What does the Trade module not do?
Trade does not track shipments with carriers, does not file customs entries or refunds, and does not act as a customs broker. Your licensed customs broker files; Muin gives you and your broker the records to work from.
Why does the liquidation date on a customs entry matter?
After an entry liquidates, the routes for a refund narrow. The **Liquidation** column in Customs entries shows the date for each entry, so you can act before it passes.
Upload CBP Form 7501s or an ACE export with **Upload entries**, then link each entry to its purchase order to see the duty you really paid next to the estimate. This is not legal advice.
Is the duty exposure figure what I will actually pay?
No. Every figure is an estimate, not booked. It uses each item's confirmed HTS code and the origin on the PO line.
The shipped rate table holds the standard (MFN) rates. When it does not include Section 301, Section 232 or antidumping and countervailing duties, the page says so, and the duty owed can be higher. A what-if rate saves nothing and changes no PO.
How do I get origin proof from a supplier?
On Origin, pick the supplier and click **Request a declaration**. Muin emails the supplier and reminds them until they answer. When the evidence arrives, the request shows **Ready to review**; you accept it or reject it with a reason.
An origin risk score, not evidence. Muin never signs a certification of origin.
How do I find a bill of lading or customs declaration?
Trade Documents opens filtered to trade document types. Search by filename or a `tag:value` pair, limit the dates, or filter on extracted fields such as the consignee. Select two or more rows and **Compare & Synthesize** reads them together; **Export** gives CSV or Excel.
