Common questions about what Muin is, who it's for, how the beta works, and how to get started running your nonprofit or business on one connected platform.
41 questions
Which modules are available in beta?
Four modules are available in beta: **Non-Profits** (donors, grants, giving pages), **Finance** (invoicing, expenses, cash flow), **HR** (onboarding, payroll operations, certifications), and **Compliance** (policies, audits, regulatory monitoring). Vendors and Procurement are coming in Q3 2026. Contracts and Trade are coming in 2026. Every plan also includes a **feature-rich platform** available to all users: - Document Intelligence - Ask Muin (AI assistant) - Smart Payments - Communications Hub - Workflows - People Registry - Integrations
What happens after beta?
Beta customers get **50% off all plans for 12 months** from launch. After the free beta period, you'll transition to a paid plan of your choice at half price. Your data is fully preserved — no migration needed. We'll provide at least 30 days notice before any pricing changes.
Is my data safe during beta?
Yes. Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit, stored on US-based DigitalOcean infrastructure in New York, and isolated from other tenants by an enforcement layer in code that blocks any query that fails to scope itself. Sensitive fields — SSNs, dates of birth, addresses, banking tokens — get a second layer of field-level encryption, so even a stolen database backup is unreadable. We use AWS Bedrock for AI processing — your data never trains any AI model. While beta software may have bugs, your data security is production-grade.
Can I import my existing data?
Yes. You can import donors, members, employees, grants, and financial contacts from CSV with column mapping, duplicate detection, and staged validation. Most tools export to CSV, so those work out of the box. We also offer white-glove migration support for Founder's Circle beta partners.
What is the non-profit discount?

What are the tasks in my Client Task Inbox?
If an accountant or advisor manages your organization through Muin, they assign you tasks when they need something from you — a bank statement, a receipt, a confirmation, or an answer to a question. Each task explains **what** is needed, **why** it matters, and **when** it's due. Open **My Tasks** to see them all. Use the filter tabs (All, Pending, Completed, Overdue) to focus on what still needs your attention — overdue items are flagged in red and should come first.
How do I upload a document my advisor asked for?
Click **Upload** on the task card and attach your file. Muin reads the document as soon as it arrives — it identifies what kind of document it is, extracts the key details, and links it to the task automatically so your advisor gets it in the right place. If the file doesn't match what the task asked for, you'll see feedback immediately and can upload a replacement. Always upload through the task rather than emailing attachments: emailed files aren't classified or linked automatically.
Why does a task show a Form 990 section?
Your advisor prepares your organization's IRS Form 990 from the documents and answers you provide. A task labeled with a **990 Section** maps directly to a part of that return — for example, revenue statements or contributor schedules. Completing these tasks promptly gives your advisor what they need to file accurately and on time. If you're not sure what's being asked, check the **Why** note on the task card or contact your advisor — they can clarify or edit the task.
What shows up on my Muin calendar?
The calendar is a unified timeline of everything with a date attached — across Muin and beyond: - **Module events** — invoice due dates, compliance deadlines, leave requests, grant deadlines, signature expirations, and more, generated automatically from your live business data - **External calendars** — Google and Outlook events from calendars you've connected - **Your own events and reminders** — created directly with the **New** button Use the category and mailbox filters to focus on one slice — for example, only finance due dates or only one connected account.
How do I see my Google or Outlook calendar in Muin?
Go to **Settings** → **Calendar** and connect your Google or Outlook account. Once connected, your external events appear alongside Muin's module events on the unified calendar. Use the **Sync** button on the calendar page any time you want to pull the latest events from every source at once. You can connect multiple accounts and filter by mailbox to see one at a time.
What are the AI deadline suggestions on the calendar?
Muin scans your filings, documents, and jurisdiction to suggest deadlines you may want on your calendar — regulatory dates for your entity type, renewal windows detected in documents, and recurring obligations. When suggestions are available, an **AI Suggestions** badge appears in the calendar header. Open it to review each suggestion: accept it to add a calendar event, or dismiss the ones that don't apply. Nothing is added to your calendar without your review.
What is the People registry?
People is the central directory for everyone connected to your organization — donors, volunteers, board members, grantees, vendors' contacts, and staff all live in one unified registry. The standalone Donors, Grantees, and Board Members pages merged into People: use the **role filter** to focus on a specific audience. Every person's record carries their full history — donations, documents, communications, and activities — across all modules.
How do I find and merge duplicate people?
Open **People** and click **Find Duplicates** (admins only). Muin scans for likely matches — similar names, shared emails or phone numbers — and scores each pair for your review. Merging is safe: every donation, document, and interaction from both records is preserved and attached to the surviving record. Review each suggested match before merging; nothing is merged automatically.
Why don't people from my uploaded documents appear in the registry?
People detected in uploaded documents go through **Entity Resolution** first — a review step where you approve, match, or reject each detected person before they enter your registry. This keeps your registry clean: OCR misreads and one-off names don't pollute your contact list. Visit **People** → **Entity Resolution** to review pending detections.
How do I get a daily briefing each morning?
Go to **Intelligence** → **Daily Briefing** and switch on **Enable Daily Briefing** in the Preferences section. Pick your delivery time (default 7:00 AM), frequency (daily, weekdays, or weekly), and channel — in-app, email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams. You can also generate one on demand any time with **Generate Today's Briefing**. The briefing is available to owner and admin roles, since it summarizes data across your whole organization.
Can I control what appears in my daily briefing?
Yes — the **Content** card in Daily Briefing preferences controls it all: toggle external news, market & regulatory updates, and the wins summary; cap items per section (1–10); and add **industry keywords** and **competitor names** to steer the news toward what you care about. The feedback control on each briefing also tunes future ones — rate what's useful and the digest gets sharper.
Can I listen to my briefing instead of reading it?
Yes. Enable **Audio Version** in the briefing preferences and each day's briefing is also generated as a podcast-style audio episode — pick the voice, playback speed, and optional background music. Listen in-app from the player on the briefing page, or copy your **private RSS feed** from the "Listen on the Go" card into any podcast app to get episodes on your commute automatically.
What's the fastest way to get help inside Muin?
Press the **`?`** key on any page. The help panel slides in with articles matched to the screen you're on, a search box that covers docs, FAQs, and blog posts, and any guided tours available for that section. Press `?` again or `Escape` to close it. For the full library, open the **Help Center** from the navigation — and when you'd rather just ask, the **Ask Muin** chat knows both your data and the platform docs.
Help search isn't finding what I'm looking for — what should I try?
Search matches titles, summaries, and content across three tabs — **Docs**, **FAQs**, and **Blog** — and shows a per-tab count, so check the other tabs before rewording. Shorter, more specific terms work best ("refund" beats "how do I give money back"). Still nothing? Browse by category below the search box, ask the **Ask Muin** chat, or use the **Still need help?** card to reach support.
Does Muin have guided tours of its features?
Yes. Open the help panel (press **`?`**) and look for the **Take a Tour** section — it lists walkthroughs for the part of the app you're in, and shows which ones you've already completed. New accounts also get a welcome tour from the **Getting Started** checklist on the home page.
How does the Value Dashboard calculate time and cost savings?
Savings derive from your actual platform activity — documents processed, invoices handled, contracts reviewed — priced with **your** assumptions: the hourly rate and per-task costs you set in **Value Settings** on the dashboard. Adjust those once and every metric recalculates to match your organization rather than generic defaults. Trends compare the selected period (7/30/90 days or year) against the previous one.
Why does my ROI show as ∞ on the Value Dashboard?
ROI compares estimated savings to your subscription cost for the period. When that cost is **$0** — a trial or free plan — there's nothing to divide by, so the dashboard shows **∞** instead of an arbitrary number. Once a paid subscription is active, the ROI percentage computes normally.
What are the milestones and celebrations on the Value Dashboard?
When your cumulative savings cross a threshold, Muin records a **milestone** and celebrates it on the dashboard. The Milestone Progress section shows what you've reached and what's next. Owners and admins can tune or quiet the celebration behavior in **Celebration Settings** on the same page.
What shows up in my Inbox?
Everything waiting on **your** decision: workflow approvals, document reviews, AI-drafted content awaiting sign-off, tasks teammates assigned to you, and heads-up alerts worth a look. New items appear first; items you've read move to Earlier; FYI alerts collapse under their own section. Use the stat cards or filter bar to narrow by category or priority.
Does the Inbox have keyboard shortcuts?
Yes — on the Inbox tab: **J**/**K** move down/up the list, **Space** expands the focused item, **A** approves (with a confirmation), **R** rejects, and **E** marks read. Rejection always opens the form so you can record a reason; batch actions are available via the item checkboxes when you need to act on many at once.
How do I hand my approvals to someone else while I'm away?
Open the Inbox and click **Delegate**. Pick who covers for you and which categories they should receive — new items in those categories route to them instead. Active delegation rules are listed in the same drawer, so you can see exactly who is covering what and remove a rule the moment you're back.
What kinds of public pages can I create?
The **Public Pages** hub (Platform → Public Pages) is the one place to create and manage everything visitors can reach: - **Giving pages** — donation pages with suggested amounts and campaign goals - **Event pages** — volunteer events with public registration - **Forms** — registration, intake, and survey forms - **Grant program pages** — public application pages for your grant programs Your organization also gets a **public homepage** at your `/go/your-organization` link, configured under **Settings → Branding → Homepage**, plus an optional public **events calendar** visitors can browse and subscribe to.
Where do I find the public links to share?
Open **Public Pages** and expand the **Public URL Directory** at the bottom of the page — it lists the live link for every page, ready to copy. Each page card also shows its own public link once published. Share these links anywhere: email, social media, your website, or QR codes.
Why can't visitors see my page?
Only pages with **Published** status are reachable at their public link — drafts and paused pages return "not found" for visitors until you publish or resume them. Check the status badge on the page's card in **Public Pages**, or use the status filter to find unpublished drafts. For the public events calendar, an admin must also enable it before the calendar link works for visitors.
What is the Advisor workspace?
The **Advisor workspace** (at `/advisor`) is a cross-client overview for CPAs, accountants, and financial advisors who manage several organizations on Muin. It shows every client with a **health score**, lets you sort and filter by status or industry, open a client's detail panel, generate quick reports per client, and onboard new clients through a guided wizard.
How is the client health score calculated?
Each client gets a 0–100 score from six weighted checks: - **Reconciliation currency** (25) — is the current month reconciled? - **Overdue invoices** (20) - **Document processing** (15) - **Deadlines** (15) - **Data completeness** (15) - **Cash flow** (10) By default, **80 and above** shows as Healthy, **60–79** as Attention, and **below 60** as Critical. Click a client card to see which factors are pulling the score down.
How do I add a new client to my advisor workspace?
Click **Add Client** on the Client Overview page (or go to `/advisor/onboard`). The wizard walks you through the client's basic info, connecting accounting and payroll, inviting their team, selecting modules, and activating agents. Once onboarded, the client appears in your overview grid with a health score as their data comes in.
