Introducing Grant Finding in Muin
Find grants in the background, watch funder pages, see what a funder gives, check readiness before you apply, and get a first draft where every figure cites its source.
Grant Management runs in the Muin platform today: start a 30-day trial on a Platform Plan. A standalone Grant Management product comes later; you can get one email when it opens on the Grant Management page.
Finding the right grant, learning what the funder actually pays for, and writing a proposal that holds up are three separate jobs. Muin does the groundwork for all three, and shows you where every fact came from.
What we learned
Before this release we ran the full grant cycle end to end. Three things got in the way:
- Scans held the page. Searching every source took minutes, and the page waited for it.
- Cash and donated goods were mixed. A funder’s “typical grant” included boxes of donated supplies, which made it look larger than any cash grant it had made.
- The interview asked what Muin already knew. People retyped their mission, budget and service area for every proposal.
This release fixes each of them.
What ships
Find grants, in the background
Go to Grant Seeking > Find grants. The Grant Finder agent searches federal listings (Grants.gov), IRS records of grants paid by foundations in all 50 states, state, county and city program pages for your location, and any pages you choose to watch. The scan runs in the background with live progress, so you can leave the page and come back to saved results.
Each match shows a score (80% and above is a strong fit), the funder’s full name, and the program’s status with the date it was read: “Open, read 7 Oct 2026”. When two readings disagree it says “Check the page”. Grants you are not eligible to apply for are left out, with the reason shown.
Pages you watch
Add a funder’s grant page or a program’s application page and Muin reads it on every scan. The Grant Calendar also shows Expected openings for programs that run on a cycle, based only on the rounds Muin has seen.
About this funder
The Funder Research agent reads a funder’s IRS grant records: what it gave each year, its typical cash grant (the middle value of its cash grants), its largest cash grant, donated goods shown separately, past grantees like you, and whether it accepts applications. Every line names the filing and year it came from. Open it from a match, from a tracked grant, or from the Grantor Directory.
Before you apply
Each proposal opens with a Before you apply card that checks what a funder will check: IRS exempt status, annual filings, SAM.gov registration, and state charity registration where the state publishes it. Each check shows its source and date. A check that could not run says so instead of passing.
An interview that starts filled in
Answers Muin already knows come prefilled from the tracked grant and your Company Profile, each labelled with where it came from. Questions depend on the kind of grant: a security grant asks for your vulnerability assessment, threats on record and security costs. Not sure of a number? Tick To be confirmed and the draft marks it instead of guessing.
Drafts that cite their figures
The Proposal Drafter agent writes each section from your answers, your public 990 history, your program accomplishments and public statistics. Every figure carries a source chip naming the dataset, year and place. A fact only you have is marked [To provide]; a figure with no source is marked [To verify], so nothing unchecked reaches a funder.
Gap tasks for the right person
The Gap Collector agent turns each fact the draft still needs into an inbox task for the grant’s contact, grouped by section on the proposal’s What we still need panel. When the fact is in the draft, the task closes.
The same tools in chat and for your AI assistant
The nine grant tools behind these agents (search grants, read a program page, look up a funder, look up filings, suggest your profile, public statistics, track record, peer benchmark, apply readiness) are available in Muin chat and to AI assistants connected through Muin’s MCP server. Chat and MCP can also start an agent run for you.
For grantmakers
Foundations that make grants get the same public record. The Grant Recommender agent reads an applicant’s Form 990 filings and prior federal awards before it scores an application, and cites each in its recommendation memo.
How to start
- Fill in Settings > Organization > Company Profile. Suggest from website and filings drafts it from your website and public filings; nothing is saved until you choose Save.
- Go to Grant Seeking > Find grants.
- Track the grants you want. Tracking researches the funder. Drafting starts when you decide to pursue the grant.
- Open the tracked grant and click Start a proposal.
