Run a Kiosk From Your Phone

Not every kiosk needs a tablet on a stand. A table at the community dinner, a sign-in desk for a Saturday clean-up, a donation point at the back of a fundraiser: these last a few hours, and the person running them already has a phone.

Quick Start in the Muin Go app turns that phone into a kiosk for as long as you need it.

Starting one

  1. In the Muin Go app, tap Kiosk on Home, or open Settings → Kiosk Mode.
  2. Pick a board or menu from the list and check the preview.
  3. Tap Start on this device.

The phone now shows the kiosk: check-in, donations, RSVP or forms, whatever that board or menu offers. Nothing to pair and no setup code to type.

Getting your phone back

Tap the exit chip and unlock with your fingerprint, face or the phone’s passcode. The app returns to the screen you started from. If the unlock is cancelled, the kiosk stays, so a visitor can’t leave it by accident.

That is why a quick session needs a screen lock on the phone. Without one, the app will not start it.

It ends on its own

A quick session ends after the board’s idle limit with no taps, and after 12 hours at most. The idle limit is 30 minutes by default. An admin can set it from 1 to 240 minutes per board, under Devices & Kiosk → Kiosk Configs → Timing & Session. When it ends, the app locks.

The app is not pinned during a quick session, so stay with the phone. For a lobby tablet that runs all day, set it up as a permanent kiosk instead.

Who can start one

Owners and admins can. For anyone else there is a new starter role, Kiosk Operator. Assign it under Settings → Roles & Permissions. A Kiosk Operator can:

  • start a quick kiosk session on their own phone
  • set up lobby tablets with Set up this tablet or a setup code
  • see the device fleet

They can’t edit menus, boards or devices. That stays with the people who build them.

Seeing who ran a kiosk

Every quick session is listed in the console under Devices & Kiosk → Fleet Dashboard → Quick sessions, with the person, the phone, the board, when it started and why it ended.

Read the full guide in Kiosk Campaigns, or see Roles & Permissions for the Kiosk Operator role.
