How to Set Up the Muin Support Agent, Step by Step

The Support Agent answers the questions people ask on your website. It answers from your own pages and documents, shows the source for each answer, and passes the visitor to a person on your team when it cannot help.

This guide walks through setting it up, from turning it on to the first visitor question.

What it costs

Plan Conversations a month Price
Free 50 $0
500 conversations 500 $19 a month
2,000 conversations 2,000 $49 a month

Step 1: Open the Support Agent’s page

In Muin, open Products in the menu, then Support Agent. This is its Product Home. Everything for this guide happens here: the setup checklist, Run setup, Install on your website, Go live and this month’s usage.

Step 2: Press Run setup

Muin does the parts it can do for you, and shows each result:

  • It reads the website you gave when you signed up, including its FAQ pages, so the agent has something to answer from on day one.
  • It fills in your business name, your office email and the person who receives handoffs.
  • It sets weekday office hours and turns on “every answer must cite a source”.
  • It adds the topics organizations like yours usually keep off limits, and starter questions as draft answers for you to finish.
  • It works out which site builder you use, so the install guide opens on the right one.

Setup only fills what is empty. If you run it again, it leaves your changes alone.

Step 3: Finish the checklist

The checklist shows nine checks. Each one that is not done has a Fix link to the screen that finishes it. The ones that need you:

  • What it must never answer is listed. Add any subject the agent should decline.
  • A person receives what it cannot answer. Name the person who gets handoffs, in Support Settings → Who answers escalations.
  • Your own questions pass. Run setup adds a few verification questions. Add the questions your visitors really ask, and what a good answer should be. On Support Settings, Run verification asks the real agent each one and shows which behaved as you said.

Step 4: Put it on your website

Open Install on your website and choose:

  • Chat bubble: a bubble in the corner of every page you paste it on.
  • Help page: search, topics, articles and the chat, inside your own Help page.

Copy the snippet and follow the guide for your site builder: WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy. On WordPress, the Muin plugin does it without code: create a connect code on the Product Home, paste it into the plugin, and add the Muin Support Agent block.

Load your website once. The check “The snippet is live on your website” turns to “Seen on” your site address.

Step 5: Go live

Press Go live. If a check still fails, nothing changes and the page lists what is missing, each with its Fix link. When everything passes, the product is live and you get a confirmation email.

What your visitors see

  1. They open the chat and ask a question.
  2. The agent answers from your published pages and articles, and shows the source it used.
  3. If they ask about a topic you listed as off limits, the agent politely declines.
  4. If it cannot answer, it offers to pass them to your team. The conversation arrives in Support Portal as a ticket, with everything already said.
  5. Outside your office hours, the agent tells them the office is closed.

After go-live

  • Usage on the Product Home shows this month’s conversations against your plan.
  • Rated Answers shows the answers visitors marked as unhelpful, so you can fix them.
  • When you answer a ticket, you can publish the answer to your knowledge base, so the agent answers it next time.

Questions people ask

Does it make things up? With “every answer must cite a source” on, an answer that cannot be tied to one of your sources is not shown.

What if we run out of conversations? AI answers pause until next month. Visitors still get matching article links and the option to reach you.

Do we need a developer? No. Paste one snippet, or use the WordPress plugin.
